The craft earns the reputation
Grand hotel bars can lean so heavily on their histories that the drink becomes almost incidental. The Connaught did the opposite on our visit. Its reputation was present, but the precision in the glass was what made the experience feel current and worth seeking out.
The room sits naturally inside its historic property: classic, composed, and ready to frame the service rather than compete with it. That balance matters. The setting gives the evening a sense of occasion, while the drinks keep it from becoming a visit made only for the name above the door.
“At the Connaught, cocktails are treated as a serious art form.”

A room built around the bar
Everything in the room points back toward the bar. The symmetry, dark green seating, marble, and mirrored surfaces create a polished stage, but the impression that lasted was focus: this is a place that treats each cocktail as the main event.
That makes the Connaught especially useful as a first reference point for a London hotel bar crawl. Visit for the historic setting, certainly, but judge it by the temperature, balance, and care of what arrives in front of you. On those terms, it was the strongest drinks program of the trip.
Two orders, one clear standard
Connaught Martini
Perfectly chilled and made with exacting care. It was the clearest expression of the bar’s focus on precision.
Espresso Martini
The best version we had in London: properly cold, carefully crafted, and the benchmark for the rest of the crawl.
