The Guards Bar and Lounge

Raffles London at The OWO · Whitehall

A front row view of Horse Guards meets a polished modern room. On our visit, the espresso martini set the pace and the London Berry brought a brighter second act.

Choose The Guards when you want historic London context without a dated room. The espresso martini was the best we had tried at that point in the crawl.

History with the dust shaken off

The Horse Guards view does much of the scene setting. From the ground floor room, Whitehall’s ceremonial life sits just outside the windows. Inside, wood paneling and red upholstery create a stately setting, while a polished contemporary finish keeps it from feeling preserved in amber.

That balance is the room’s main success. The history is always present, but it does not dictate the mood. The Guards feels restored for current use rather than staged as a period piece, so the luxury reads as modern without erasing the building’s character.

The espresso martini sets the pace

The espresso martini was the best version we had tried at that point in the crawl. It became the benchmark for the stops that followed. The London Berry moved in another direction. It was refreshing and tart, with a hint of sweetness and a subtle berry note. Together, the drinks gave us two useful sides of the bar: one confident and familiar, the other brighter and easier to linger over.

Where The Guards fits

The Guards makes sense when the setting should feel unmistakably London without becoming a history lesson. It works for a daytime drink that makes the most of the view or an evening stop where the room still feels composed. If you want an intentionally dark cocktail den, choose another address. If you want Whitehall outside the window and modern luxury inside it, this is the clearer fit.
